Port Angeles High School students honored for academic achievements

The Port Angeles Education Foundation honored 12 Port Angeles High School seniors for academic achievement at a ceremony Oct. 29. To be eligible for the foundation’s academic achievement award, students had to achieve a 3.5 grade-point average in each semester of their first three years at the school and take at least nine credits honors, advanced placement or university in the high school courses. The honorees were Amelie Atwater, Alisandra Baccus, Lucah Folden, Anna Gentry, Kaitlynn Lau, Meiqi Liang, Stuart Methner, Olivia Nevaril, Madilyn Roening, Thomas Shaw, Emily Sirguy and Emma Weller.

A repair crew performs work on the observation tower at the end of Port Angeles City Pier on Wednesday as part of a project to repair structural deficiencies in the tower, which has been closed to the public since November. The work, being performed by Aberdeen-based Rognlin’s Inc., includes replacement of bottom supports and wood decking, paint removal and repainting of the structure.
