PORT ANGELES – Mari Tacardon said that she and her family hope to be a step closer to a permanent home after a meeting with a Clallam County Housing Authority representative today.
Smoke and fire damage put the family out of its rented Port Angeles home on Dec. 21.
Since then, Tacardon, her 9-year-old son Daniel Wake, and her mother Lauren Mattson have stayed at the Royal Victorian Motel in Port Angeles, put up by the North Olympic Peninsula Red Cross.
The Red Cross funded their motel stay through Thursday, while another organization, the name of which escaped Tacardon, paid their way through Thursday night.
“There have been so many people who we have been talking to, and so many people offering help – the community is wonderful,” Mattson said on Thursday.
After seven days, Tacardon “was getting anxious that we weren’t able to find something sooner, but the people at the housing resources department said almost no one is relocated in less than a week, so I’m trying to be more patient.”
