PORT ANGELES — Tuesday morning’s fire at the Elks Naval Lodge building tied up traffic downtown and briefly slowed business activity, but most stores rebounded in the afternoon when First and Lincoln streets were reopened.
Clallam Transit System buses also were rerouted and extra drivers were called in to drive smaller buses needed on some narrower streets used as alternative routes.
The intersection of First and Lincoln streets was closed from about 4 a.m. until 11 a.m. Traffic backed up past Oak Street, about three blocks, for much of that time.
First Street was opened to one-lane traffic about 11 a.m. but left turns onto Lincoln were not allowed. Lincoln Street was closed between First and Third streets until about 11 a.m.
