PORT ANGELES — Hundreds of volunteers will arrive at Erickson Park today tools in hand to help with five days of construction that will result in a Dream Playground.
As of Tuesday, Dream Playground proponents had about $125,000 in pledges — not including donated materials — of the $135,000 needed.
“We are a little short, but not much,” said Steve Methner of Steve Methner State Farm Insurance.
Methner is the fund-raising co-chairman for the project.
“We expect to do some fund raising during the building and will hopefully meet the goal by Sunday,” he said.
At 8 a.m. today, people working on the playground will observe a moment of silence to remember the Sept. 11 attacks, he said.
But over the course of the week playground construction will be anything but silent.
About 1,100 volunteers have signed up to help build the playground, provide day care, serve and prepare food and provide other support services during construction.
