Port Angeles: Councilman envisions sports complex for Lincoln Park

PORT ANGELES — Both an ice arena and a revamped swimming pool have been proposed by separate groups in the city.

But at least one city councilman thinks they might work well together — at one of Port Angeles’ most popular parks.

City Councilman Gary Braun, a main proponent of an ice arena, suggested at a recent City Council meeting that an ice arena could be built at Lincoln Park — along with a new swimming pool and perhaps indoor soccer and tennis facilities.

“The subject came up when I attended a pool renovation meeting two weeks ago,” Braun said.

“It’s still very conceptual, but it would be nice to locate an ice skating facility there and also have indoor tennis and soccer.”

Braun, a former mayor, first publicly broached the idea of an ice arena at a March 2002 Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
