PORT ANGELES — A U.S. Coast Guardsman who allegedly fabricated a note containing a racial slur will be court-martialed in Seattle next week.
Charges in violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, some relating to racially based incidents in Port Angeles and others not relating to the incidents, have been brought against the man since the allegations came to light last spring, Capt. Bill Peterson, commanding officer of Coast Guard Group/Air Station Port Angeles, said Wednesday.
The charges will be heard at the court-martial next Wednesday and Thursday at the Federal Building in downtown Seattle, with sentencing to follow if the man is found guilty, Peterson said.
Port Angeles City Councilwoman Karen Rogers and Peninsula Daily News Editor and Publisher John Brewer, who are both members of the city’s Community Multicultural Task Force, will testify about the impact of the racially based incidents on the community at the court-martial.
