PORT ANGELES — After six years at the helm, City Manager Mike Quinn is leaving in mid-October to take the reins of city government in Mount Dora, Fla., a city of 10,500 people about 25 miles northeast of Orlando.
Mayor Richard Headrick said Quinn contacted City Council members Thursday and sent an e-mail to employees Friday announcing his departure.
Quinn said the Mount Dora City Council approved his contract at its Thursday meeting. He had an interview with the council on July 30.
“It’s a growing city with new development, an older downtown along lakefront, then highway development,” Quinn said.
“It’s a very nice community. It’s got the Southern town square with a white column, two-story brick city hall.
“It’s a nice community. I’m familiar with area. I have a timeshare in Orlando.
The 55-year-old Quinn said the move “is a chance to have a different lifestyle and still be a city manager.”
A City Council executive session to discuss replacing Quinn is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
