PORT ANGELES — The City Council voted 5-2 Tuesday night to uphold the city’s environmental permit for its water fluoridation project.
City Councilmen Larry Williams and Jack Pittis voted against the permit, citing contradictions and questions raised by testimony at a July 28-29 public hearing.
At least two appellants said after the council vote that they will sue in Superior Court to try to stop the fluoridation project.
“We’re going to take it to court!” said Jesse Wilson, president of Clallam County Citizens for Safe Drinking Water.
Mayor Richard Headrick, meanwhile, said the city attorney will prepare legal “findings and conclusions” for the council to approve at its next meeting, set for Sept. 7.
Technically, the council’s decision will be final when those findings and conclusions are recorded, Headrick said.
Council members are still prohibited from discussing the issue outside the meeting, he said.
