PORT ANGELES — People hauling garbage to the Port Angeles landfill can expect to pay $5 more on their minimum fee starting in May.
The Port Angeles City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the increase on the current $2 minimum rate, increasing the minimum self-haul load from 52 pounds to 102 pounds.
Beginning May 1, self-haulers will pay a $7 minimum rate.
City Council members said they hope the minimum fee increase will reduce the number of trips landfill users make to dispose of their trash.
City Public Works Director Glenn Cutler said he does not expect the fee change to affect recycling and yard waste disposal, which will still be free.
The $76.80 tipping fee will also not change.
