PORT ANGELES — Emergency management officials from throughout the state are gathering at the Red Lion Hotel for a symposium to be held through Thursday.
The Washington State Emergency Management Association is holding its fall educational conference at the downtown hotel, said Joe Ciarlo, Clallam County emergency services director.
More than 100 people working in the emergency management field are registered for the event, Ciarlo said.
WSEMA — “wa-see-ma” — was formed in 1970 to promote emergency preparedness among the public and government.
Speakers at the conference range from government officials to university professors.
Today’s events begin with opening remarks from Clallam County Commissioner Steve Tharinger, D-Sequim, and Port Angeles Mayor Larry Doyle.
The agenda for the three-day conference includes such topics as bio-terrorism and earthquake preparation.
