Port Angeles: Airport increases security, airlines still shut down

PORT ANGELES — Cars parked in front of the airport terminal were towed Wednesday as security was tightened prior to resumption of airline service.

But William R. Fairchild International Airport’s only air carrier, Horizon Air, has yet to resume service.

Flights could still resume at Fairchild by this weekend.

The latest Federal Aviation Administration target for resuming flights at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is 6 a.m. today.

In the meantime, Fairchild officials are preparing for the resumption of flights by stepping up security.

“We are removing vehicles parked in front of the terminal prior to issuance of the Federal Aviation Administration security directive,” Fairchild Manager Jeff Robb said.

“Concrete barricades are going up 300 feet in front of the airport terminal building,” Robb said. “Increased signage will direct people to the terminal, parking and other airport services.”

The Federal Aviation Administration directive requires increased security measures before planes will be allowed to fly.
