William R. Fairchild International Airport will be the scene of a live emergency exercise beginning at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
The simulated airplane crash will include multiple victims, fire suppression, trapped victim rescue and multi-agency coordination.
The exercise will take place 1,000 feet south of the runway, so it won’t impact airport operations.
These real time drills are required every three years by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The drill demonstrates how the airport and the community’s emergency response agencies can manage a major incident.
Participating agencies include the Port of Port Angeles, city of Port Angeles, Clallam County, Clallam County Fire District No. 3, United States Coast Guard and Olympic Memorial Hospital.
