PORT ANGELES — Police are warning that counterfeit bills are showing up at businesses.
“We received three reports in three hours [Monday] evening — $10 and $20 bills,” Port Angeles Deputy Chief Brian Smith said.
The bills all had the same serial numbers, Smith said.
Each of the $10 bills were marked with the serial number JD80187995A, while the $20 bills were marked with MD36540722B.
Anyone who receives a bill with either of these serial numbers is asked to call police at 360-452-4545.
“Businesses who handle cash should follow their own best practices,” Smith said.
In one case, the person who passed the false cash to a business was interviewed, he said, but it was not clear that the person knew the money was counterfeit.
Smith said the other two reports included descriptions that did not match the person interviewed.
