PORT ANGELES — The man law enforcement officials believe caused a collision on U.S. Highway 101 earlier this month that killed three Port Angeles men was arrested and booked in the Clallam County jail Wednesday afternoon.
Michael John Jones, 48, was arrested at his residence on Nellie Lane west of Port Angeles without incident.
He is being held in the Clallam County jail on suspicion of three counts of vehicular homicide, said Trooper Scott Harter, a spokesman for Washington State Patrol.
Investigators say that Jones was driving under the influence of drugs when the vehicle he was driving crossed the centerline on U.S. Highway 101 near Dear Park Cinemas on Aug. 3 and started the three vehicle collision.
Riding in a truck traveling in the opposite direction were Ian Clayton Rolley, 45; his son, Jeremy Clayton Rolley, 21; and Jeremy’s friend, Jonathan Jeffrey “J.J.” Brewer, 21.
They were declared dead at the scene.
