PORT TOWNSEND – Don’t even think about using the restrooms at Jefferson County Fairgrounds, where about 334,000 gallons of water has vanished in a pipeline break beneath them.
That’s about $2,000 worth of water lost since June 8 – water of which was last heard bubbling under the restroom building on Sunday, said Sue McIntire, fairgrounds board treasurer.
“The whole underneath was super-saturated and we were worried it might fall into a sinkhole,” said McIntire, who dashed off to Port Hadlock for plumbing supplies so her husband and fairgrounds board president, Bill, could quickly make repairs.
To temporarily mend the line, water had to be shut off for nearly three hours to a full campground and RV park at the fairgrounds.
The popular campground east of 49th Street has 80 sites, 58 of which have water hookups.
