PORT TOWNSEND – The leader of a petition drive to end the City Council-city manager form of government submitted petitions Monday bearing 523 signatures.
Business owner John Sheehan dropped off 68 pages of signatures at the Jefferson County Auditor’s Office, saying he would bring in more petitions with signatures, if necessary.
Karen Cartmel, deputy auditor in charge of elections, on Monday afternoon accepted the petitions from Sheehan, who brought them in personally.
The petition asks those signing it if they support reinstating the strong mayor form of government, abolishing the existing council-manager form.
