Personal fireworks come with regulations — or outright ban

FIREWORKS BOUGHT AT stands can make a colorful mini-show, but residents should be careful to adhere to the laws of the local governments when setting them off.

Those traveling for the Fourth of July holiday should also take care on the Washington state ferries. Only legal fireworks like sparklers, spinners and Roman candles are allowed and may be inspected.

• In unincorporated areas of Clallam and Jefferson counties and in Sequim, fireworks follow state laws.

That means that fireworks may be set off now through Sunday between 9 a.m. and midnight and Monday, July 5, between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m.

• No personal fireworks are allowed within the Port Townsend city limit.

• Within the Port Angeles city limits, fireworks can be ignited legally only on Sunday between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. Fireworks are prohibited from general public use at City Pier, Hollywood Beach or the Waterfront Trail.

• Fireworks may be used from today through noon on July 6 in Forks.

City Attorney/Planner Rod Fleck said although the city ordinance does not reflect a specific time limit, residents are asked to respect neighbors who might have to awaken early the next day.
