April unemployment rose slightly in Clallam County, but fell in Jefferson County compared to the same month a year ago, state figures show.
The monthly state Employment Security Department report shows Clallam County’s unemployment rate in April was 7.4 percent compared to 7.2 percent a year ago.
In Jefferson County, the April rate was 5.8 percent compared to 6 percent in April 2002.
Clallam County registered 8 percent unemployment in March while Jefferson County’s unemployment was 6.6 percent.
Washington’s unemployment rate nudged upward to 7.3 percent in April.
The latest rate, announced Tuesday by the Employment Security Department, is up 0.2 percent from April. The rate compares with a national rate of 6 percent.
