Clallam County on Tuesday banned shellfish harvesting from the mouth of the Dungeness River east to Discovery Bay because of dangerous toxins.
The announcement was made by the Clallam County Environmental Health Division in Port Angeles.
Samples taken by the Washington state Department of Health and volunteers showed high levels of paralytic shellfish toxin, also known as red tide, division spokeswoman Jennifer Barnhill said.
The increase of toxins was described as “sudden”‘ over the past week in Barnhill’s report.
