A wave of thunderstorms and warm, humid conditions have passed across the North Olympic Peninsula — leaving lightning-caused fires and a memorable Monday morning drenching.
Lightning strikes ignited at least six small fires in Jefferson and Clallam counties Sunday and Monday.
Officials from Olympic National Park, Olympic National Forest and the state Department of Natural Resources said most of the fires had disappeared by Monday afternoon.
National Weather Service officials in Seattle say the height of the storms occurred Monday morning as an upper-level trough passed over Western Washington.
The normal onshore flow should bring usual temperatures and some sunshine to the North Olympic Peninsula by this afternoon.
And the long-range forecast for Independence Day is mostly sunny weather with temperatures around 70 degrees, the Weather Service predicted Monday night.
