PORT ANGELES — Students from Choice Alternative School and Crescent School are learning first-hand about Strait of Juan de Fuca currents.
The two schools are collaborating on a drift card study, which places wooden cards into Morse Creek and off Ediz Hook in Port Angeles in an effort to learn more about tides and currents.
Thursday afternoon, students dropped the bright orange 4-inch by 6-inch plywood cards — each a quarter-inch thick — during a receding tide off Ediz Hook.
Additional cards were released into Morse Creek during an outbound tide Wednesday.
In total, about 140 cards were released. Students tentatively plan to release more before the school year ends.
