North Olympic Peninsula residents could pay up to $1.25 more per state ferry trip according to a new fare increase proposal from the state Department of Transportation.
However, frequent users of the Port Townsend-Keystone route would pay only another $2 per month.
The proposed increases affect all Washington State Ferry routes, including the Kingston, Bainbridge Island and Port Townsend routes that link the North Olympic Peninsula with Puget Sound destinations.
The proposals do not affect privately owned Port Angeles ferries to Victoria.
The first public meetings on the 2002 tariff proposal were held in Seattle and Bainbridge Island on Wednesday.
Additional meetings are scheduled for Feb. 25 on Whidbey Island, March 4 in Kingston, and March 5 in Port Townsend.
