Members of the Grand Old Party will gather in homes and school rooms across the North Olympic Peninsula Tuesday night to debate the political issues of the day –among them re-electing President Bush to a second term.
Clallam County Republican Central Committee Chairman Dick Smithton said state and national party platforms will likely be discussed, but the main topics of interest are the presidential primary and what election style should be supported.
The primary is an issue for Jefferson County Republicans too, said Ron Gregory, Jefferson County Republican central committee chairman.
“We’ll be following the state party guidelines on that,” Gregory said. “Our position, and I am sure this will come up at the caucuses, is we will support the state position.”
Much acrimony has been simmering since the state Legislature canceled this year’s presidential primary to save $6 million. As a result, precinct caucuses have returned to the forefront in the presidential sweepstakes.
