Small general aviation aircraft are finally flying again, but confusion reigns among pilots about the new rules and restrictions put in place since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
“Yes, I can fly again, with certain restrictions,” said Jeff Well, owner of Rite Bros. Aviation, which flies out of William R. Fairchild International Airport in Port Angeles.
Rite Bros. was allowed to resume its charter service Sept. 13 when airlines and charter services were released from the nationwide grounding by the Federal Aviation Administration.
However, the other parts of the company’s operation remained grounded until late last week. Restrictions on other than airlines and charter services slowly are being lifted, although agricultural crop dusters were cleared to fly then grounded again over the weekend.
