Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park officials have lifted a ban on open fires and smoking.
Officials said Wednesday the ban was lifted at 11 p.m. Monday following recent rains.
“Conditions on the ground are wet enough now and the danger of human-caused fires is reduced,”‘ forest Supervisor Dale Hom said Tuesday. “This is timely as visitors are preparing for a weekend of good weather.
While the burn and smoking ban has been lifted, park Superintendent David Morris said forest and park users still need to be vigilant.
“The burn ban has been lifted, but we continue to urge all visitors and residents on the Olympic Peninsula to be cautious with open flame,” Morris said.
