Brian Kelly had no problem shedding his clothes in the name of charity.
His only complaint — standing on the banks of the Elwha River clad in just sandals and a hat proved a bit chilly.
“I think it’s in good taste,” Kelly, 54, of Port Angeles said last week.
“And it’s to raise money for a good cause.”
That cause is Peninsula Friends of Animals, which recruited Kelly and 12 other men from the Sequim and Port Angeles areas, plus their canine pals, to bare all for its 2005 calendar, “Dogs ‘n’ Wheels . . . and Fluffy, too!”
Successful beginning
Seizing on the success of its 2004 nude women calendar, which netted more than $30,000 for the non-profit animal rescue organization, the group gathered together men, dogs and wheeled vehicles in 13 black-and-white photos for a humorous project that hit store shelves this weekend.
A man atop a Harley-Davidson near the Freshwater Bay shore, with a Bull Mastiff by his side, graces the cover. Inside, men from their 20s through 80s pose with a gamut of pooches, from Pomeranians to a Chihuahua to golden retrievers and a Great Dane.
Each man is strategically covered, whether by a puppy, a plant, a piece of wood or their poses, though there’s no doubt every model is wearing only his birthday suit.
Models not identified
And yes, one fluffy cat does make an appearance — riding in the basket of a motorized scooter driven by a knee socks-wearing Mr. October.
None of the models are identified.
While not all the men are volunteers with Peninsula Friends of Animals, they do all support the group’s mission, said board member Nancy Campbell.
“The most important thing is that these were people who were willing to get naked for animals,” she said.
The calendar is the second in-the-buff venture for Peninsula Friends of Animals, which in February opened Safe Haven, a no-kill shelter located between Sequim and Port Angeles.
