If you dialed 2-1-1 on a telephone land line and received a message that your call could not be completed as dialed, then you very likely are receiving phone service through either an Internet or satellite provider.
The non-emergency help line that went online recently for residents of Clallam, Jefferson and Kitsap counties is not available for phones serviced by either type of provider, said Nola Grier, internal operations manager for United Way of Clallam County on Tuesday.
But there is an alternative.
A toll free number, 1-800-627-0335, will connect callers to the same call center as the 2-1-1 number.
The phone number is a link with health and social services providers on the North Olympic and Kitsap peninsulas and across Washington.
It puts the caller in touch with a call center in Bremerton.
The call center will determine what kind of help is needed, and where, and connect the person to the closest appropriate agency.
“It covers all sorts of assistance,”‘ said Jody Moss, executive director of United Way of Clallam County, during a county commission ceremony introducing the service on Monday.
