The Hood Canal Bridge won’t close for reconstruction until 2006, but transportation officials are studying the effects of the shutdown now.
Thousands of North Olympic Peninsula motorists affected by closing the Hood Canal Bridge will receive surveys asking about transportation options commuters will likely use during the planned eight-week shutdown.
The state Department of Transportation is currently considering four ferry traffic alternatives for commuters:
* Hood Canal passenger-only ferry.
* Port Townsend-Seattle passenger-only ferry.
* Port Townsend-Edmonds vehicle ferry.
* Port Townsend-Kingston vehicle ferry.
“The survey will help us determine the demand for transportation alternatives,” department Project Manager John Callahan said. “It will also help us plan adequate parking facilities and support services to make travel more convenient.”
Those who did not receive the survey in the mail can find it on-line at www.wsdot.ws.gov.
