PENINSULA: HALIBUT SEASON OPENS TODAY OFF NEAH BAY AND LAPUSH; MAY 17 ELSEWHERE

>

NEAH BAY — Halibut seasons off Neah Bay and LaPush open today.

The seasons off Sekiu/Pillar Point and in the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca don’t begin until May 17.

LaPush and Neah Bay — Marine Areas 3 and 4 — will be open to halibut Tuesdays through Saturdays until a combined quota of 88,030 pounds has been caught.

The areas will re-open July 1-4 to another 20,000-pound quota. If the total quota of 108,030 pounds is not caught by July 4, the areas will stay open — again Tuesdays through Saturdays — until the limit is met or Sept. 30, whichever occurs first.

There is no minimum size but a daily limit of one halibut.
