North Olympic Peninsula residents will get a chance to talk to state officials about proposed ferry fare increases today and Tuesday.
If approved, foot passengers as well as vehicle drivers and their passengers would pay about 12.5 percent more per trip on most routes, Department of Transportation officials said.
Many fares on the Port Townsend-Keystone route wouldn’t be affected, however.
Officials will be on hand for a public hearing in Kingston tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kingston Junior High School, 9000 N.E. West Kingston Road.
On Tuesday, transportation officials will be in Port Townsend at Blue Heron Middle School 3939 San Juan Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m.

The fare increases are part of a continuing effort by the state to make fares cover 80 percent of the ferry system’s operating costs, Transportation officials said.
