PENINSULA: College may drop environmental studies program – BY LORA GREEN

Peninsula College may have to drop its environmental studies program at the end of the 2001-2002 school year.

On Tuesday, college officials confirmed that unless a new funding source is found, the partnership program with Western Washington University will no longer be offered to college students.

Students currently enrolled in the program will be able to graduate, but new students will not be admitted, said Ralph Riley, director of off-campus environmental studies for the Bellingham-based university.

The program is partially funded by state moneys intended to help displaced timber and fisheries workers, Riley said.

The loss of that funding could end the program, Riley said.

“We are pursuing all sorts of options,”‘ he said.
