Peninsula: Blizzard-like winds, snow slam Hurricane Ridge

Blizzard conditions, extreme avalanche danger and nine-foot snowdrifts at the Hurricane Ridge lodge parking lot closed Hurricane Ridge Road all day Sunday.

It was unknown whether the road would open today.

Avalanche danger was extremely high above 4,000 feet, a park dispatcher said late Sunday afternoon.

Nine inches of snow fell overnight Sunday; two feet of new snow had been recorded at the Ridge as of Friday.
