Pedestrian killed by motorist in Forks identified as teacher

FORKS — A pedestrian who died of injuries sustained when she was hit by a car Saturday was identified Tuesday by police as Mary Beth Carlill, 50, of Forks.

Police said Carlill, a prekindergarten teacher at Forks Elementary School, died at Forks Community Hospital after she was hit by a car driven by Joani Foster, 84, of Forks as Carlill walked in a crosswalk at the intersection of Blackberry Avenue and East Division Street at 11:20 a.m.

The initial report from the Forks Police Department was that Carlill was 60 and was from Missouri.

Carlill had moved from Missouri to Forks, said Kelsey Pearson, acting as spokeswoman for the Police Department.

Carlill was hit at a slow speed, police said Saturday.

“There was no suspected drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision,” Pearson said.

No additional information regarding the collision or investigation was available Tuesday.

Investigators from the Police Department, Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and State Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

Foster was not injured, and there were no passengers in the car, police said.
