PORT ANGELES – A plan to acquire an inflatable building big enough to cover a football field received a nod from a city parks advisory panel Thursday night.
The fast-track proposal for the structure to house indoor tennis courts and a soccer field at Erickson Playfield goes to the City Council next week.
The rush is because to get the donated “bubble” field house building, which formerly was inflated at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., an application must be completed by the end of next week.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the community, although there’s lots of questions that need answered,” said parks board chairman Ron Johnson.
“But let’s have this go forward.”
The city Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission voted 3-1 – with one abstention – at a special meeting Thursday to endorse the air-supported tennis and soccer field house and the efforts by Peninsula Tennis Club members to bring the “bubble” to Port Angeles.
Now the proposal goes to the City Council for consideration at its next meeting, set for 6 p.m. Wednesday in the council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
