PORT ANGELES — The School Board will review its proposed $36.15 million 2003-04 school budget during a special public hearing Monday night.
The hearing will begin at 6 p.m. at the Central Service Building, 216 E. Fourth St., and will provide the public an opportunity to comment on the budget.
A second budget hearing will be held Aug. 18 before the five-member board is expected to approve it Aug. 25.
The budget must be submitted to the state by Aug. 31.
The district will collect $5.12 million from the voter-approved maintenance and operations levy for the 2003-04 budget.
District budget documents show officials plan to spend $27.9 million for certified and classified salaries and benefits, accounting for 77.2 percent of the budget.
The district will also spend $2.2 million on building administration (principals) activities, $5.4 million on support activities such as busing and custodial costs and $2.2 million on central administration, which includes the School Board budget, district postage needs and district-wide activities.
