QUILCENE — An Oregon man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition early Thursday morning after he failed to negotiate a left curve in southern Jefferson County.
At 3:04 a.m. Thursday, Joshua Abdon, 39, of Stayton, Ore., was driving southbound on U.S. Highway 101 near Quilcene when he failed to negotiate a sharp left curve and flew off the road into a southbound ditch, according to the State Patrol.
He re-entered the roadway and crossed several lanes of traffic before striking a large tree adjacent to a ditch on the northbound shoulder of the highway, where his vehicle came to a rest, the State Patrol said.
Abdon sustained significant head trauma and was airlifted to Harborview, said Trooper Gill Vandenkooy, State Patrol public information officer.
The State Patrol also reported that Abdon was not wearing his seatbelt at the time and that drugs or alcohol were involved.
