OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — A temporary dive restriction around a submerged car in Lake Crescent has been extended through September.
Olympic National Park officials announced the extended restriction Wednesday to protect human remains found near a 1927 Chevrolet submerged in about 170 feet of water.
A recreational diver reported finding a male femur bone and a skull cap during a dive May 29 about 100 feet from the vehicle, in slightly shallower water.
Divers found the car submerged off Meldrim Point, also called Ambulance Point, near U.S. Highway 101 two years ago.
The vehicle was last driven by Russel and Blanch Warren, a couple in their 30s who disappeared July 3, 1929, as they drove west from Port Angeles toward their Bogachiel-area logging camp, and their two young sons.
