The possibility of rain and even light snow at Hurricane Ridge during the next several days is keeping the Griff Peak fire under control.
Lightning started the fire Sept. 6. Cool weather kept the fire contained until two weeks ago, when it started to grow. Last week the blaze grew by about 700 acres during unseasonably warm, dry weather.
Because of the steep terrain, the park is using existing fire lines such as the trail and ridges to contain the blaze.
Helicopters were sent to other fires and the trail crew hiked out of the wilderness Tuesday. The Little River Trail remains closed.
