PORT ANGELES — Olympic National Park’s new superintendent talked Monday about development of a new management plan that will provide a vision for the future of the park and guide long-term decision-making.
In the job for only a few weeks, William G. “Bill” Laitner added that he is very interested in hearing from the public — “one of my most important responsibilities is listening” — as he becomes more familiar with the park and visitor issues.
“I became a grandfather on Saturday,” he said, “and my dream is that my granddaughter’s grandchildren can come and enjoy Olympic and the 387 other units of the Park Service the way I have.”
Accompanied by Deputy Superintendent Sue McGill, Laitner’s talk to the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce’s weekly luncheon meeting was his first public appearance in Port Angeles.
