Olympic Medical Center reaches an agreement with one union

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Medical Center has reached a three-year contract with UFCW 21 Pro Tech and the 168 employees it represents, the hospital district announced.

OMC commissioners approved the contract in a special meeting Friday.

Final terms of the contract were approved by members of Pro Tech, one of five UFCW groups at the hospital, on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, negotiations are continuing with SEIU Healthcare 1199NW, which picketed the hospital earlier this month.

SEIU 1199NW represents more than 350 nurses, dietary workers and service workers at the hospital.

OMC settled a three-year contract with UFCW Home Health and its 50 employees last spring.

Negotiations with the three remaining UFCW units — Clerical, Laundry and Central Billing Office — will resume Thursday.

OMC officials said the contract with the Pro Tech unit provides for competitive wage increases while recognizing the medical center’s need to reduce an unsustainable benefit cost structure.

The three-year contract includes modest increases to employees’ cost share for medical insurance for their spouses and dependents and a revised retirement plan.

Terms of the offer will be applied equally to management.
