NORDLAND — A new flag is flying over Fort Flagler State Park today, following Saturday’s dedication of a historic flagpole.
The flagpole was restored by Friends of Fort Flagler members, who raised $1,800 for the project.
The restoration followed an inspection last year that revealed parts of the lower section of the flagpole had rusted through.
“The first thought was that we might replace it,” member Bob Brown said. “But after we discussed it with the park manager, we realized that the historical value of the pole was really important. We decided to keep as much of it as possible and still meet safety standards.”
So the group undertook the restoration.
