PORT ANGELES – Ha! Ha! is no joke.
An acronym for “homeless accountability and homeless action,” it’s also the name of a 16-page newsletter published by and for people who have no sure, secure place to live.
The newsletter debuted Wednesday partly in reaction to Peninsula Daily News coverage of the annual Point in Time census of homeless people last Jan. 25.
Feeling that parts of the article stereotyped some homeless people, David Hiner and Valerie Proctor started work on Ha! Ha! – both as a publication and as an organization.
As a publication, Ha! Ha! is a potpourri of advice, resources, poetry and photography – all from the perspective of life on Port Angeles streets.
“We saw a need and attempted to fill it,” Proctor said.
