NEWS BRIEFS: Highway 101 closures east of Sequim possible Monday … and other items

SEQUIM – Drivers may encounter closures on U.S. Highway 101 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday.

Drivers on Highway 101 east of Sequim near Sophus Road may encounter several total highway closures.

Each closure could last up to 10 minutes.

The closures are for delivery of 150-foot-long bridge girders for a tribal construction project.

Drivers could experience brief delays and are encouraged to add extra time to reach their destinations.

Flight operations

COUPEVILLE — Outlying Landing Field Coupeville will be closed to jet aircraft traffic until the end of October due to runway maintenance.

There will be field carrier landing practice operations for aircraft stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Complex at Ault Field for mid-afternoon then evening to night Monday.

Practice also is slated for afternoon to late afternoon then evening to night Tuesday.

Operations will continue from afternoon to late afternoon Friday.

Childbirth Class

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Healthcare will hold a seven week childbirth class starting Monday, Oct. 29.

Classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. each Monday through Dec. 10.

The free program will be presented at Home Health and Hospice, Jefferson Healthcare, 2500W. Sims Way.

The course will cover early and active labor, comfort and pain management.

The course is designed for pregnant women and their labor support.
