NEWS BRIEFS: Unity speaker for Sunday service set … and other items

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics’ 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service speaker will be Kim Perkins.

Her lesson at the church, 2917 E. Myrtle St., is titled “Seeing Life as it is.”

According to a news release: “Too many times we hold onto ideas about how our life is supposed to look and what is supposed to happen. We may even be aware that holding these preconceived notions keeps us from living our life to the fullest, content and at peace.”

Perkins is a business consultant, author and speaker who has held careers in retail, telecommunications and nursing.

A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Child care is available during the service.

Church on the Pier

PORT ANGELES — Church on the Pier will be at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Calvary Chapel will host free food, music, children’s activities and an inspiring message, the church says on its website at http://www.calvarypa.org/.

The gathering will be at City Pier off Lincoln Street and Railroad Avenue.

The church plans Church on the Pier also on Aug. 13.

Vacation school

PORT ANGELES — Four local churches are combining efforts to bring a vacation bible school, titled “Hero Central (We are all God’s Super Heroes),” on Monday, July 10-14.

The free event will be held from 8:30 p.m. to noon daily at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez Ave.

Ages 4 to fifth grade graduates are invited to attend the school.

Buffet luncheon

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Christian Women’s Connection will host a buffet luncheon at the Port Angeles CrabHouse restaurant from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

For $18 attendees can partake in the luncheon at the CrabHouse, located at 221 N. Lincoln St.

The event will feature a speaker and Marilyn McNamara will provide entertainment.

Jamie Lawrence will present a speech, “Color Me Beautiful.”

Spots are limited for this event, so staff members advise those interested to make reservations.

KSQM radio program airs cinema music

SEQUIM — Shelley Taylor Morgan’s new radio program, titled “Audio Cinema: The Music That Makes The Movies” premiered July 3 on KSQM 91.5 FM.

Taylor’s program will feature movie scores and soundtracks airing Mondays at 9 p.m., and then a repeat of Monday’s show will be Sundays at 3 p.m.

Her inaugural episode was “Gone with the Wind” and the upcoming edition will feature music from “Bladerunner.”
