NEWS BRIEFS — Technology tutoring offered beginning Wednesday in Port Angeles . . . and other items

PORT ANGELES — Wednesday is the first day that free “Tech-Know-Logy” appointments will be offered at the Port Angeles Library.

Staff members will provide hands-on, one-on-one technology tutoring during 30-minute appointments on Wednesdays through March.

The sessions will be at the library at 2210 S. Peabody St. by appointment only between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Dates for winter Tech-Know-logy appointments are this Wednesday, Jan. 28, Feb. 11 and 25, and March 11 and 25.

Alternate appointment times are available upon request.

Staff members can provide guidance on e-readers, smartphones, tablets, laptops or other devices.

Sockeye meeting scheduled

SEKIU — Community members are invited to the Lake Ozette Sockeye Salmon Recovery Steering Committee’s discussion of updates and project implementation Thursday, Jan. 15.

The meeting is at the Sekiu Community Center, 42 Rice St., and is from 10:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Agenda topics include updates on activities since the September meeting; reports on existing recovery projects and discussion about potential new projects; invasive plants presentation; Coal Creek culvert-to-bridge replacement overview; predation workgroup and turbidity study updates; public outreach and education strategies; and future steering committee activities.

The committee helped develop the Lake Ozette sockeye salmon recovery plan and is now providing input for its implementation.

The steering committee’s open membership includes landowners, interested citizens, timber companies, as well as representatives from local, state, federal and tribal governments.

Native plants

CHIMACUM — A free workshop on native plants will be held at the Chimacum Grange, 9572 Rhody Drive, from 9 a.m. to noon Friday.

A panel of experts will show slides of all the native plants available for sale at their Feb. 21 annual tree sale.

Elwha River film to be screened

GARDINER — A free showing of “Return of the River” will be held at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, from 7 p.m. to 8:10 p.m. Wednesday.

All are welcome, and donations will be accepted.

The screening is sponsored by Greywolf Fly Fishing Club.

This locally produced, award-winning documentary covers the entire history of the Elwha River dams.

Following the showing, the co-director of the film will discuss the work and answer questions.
