NEWS BRIEFS: Stolen mail recovered by Port Angeles police … and other items

PORT ANGELES — A plastic sack with 123 pieces of stolen mail has been recovered by the Port Angeles Police Department.

The sack — containing mail from Sequim, Port Angeles and unincorporated Clallam County — was found Friday at Crown Park, 1925 W. Fourth St., after being reported to the police, according to a Monday press release.

Police said none of the mail was junk mail.

Based on the dates of the mail, it is believed most of it was taken from mailboxes around May 1, police said in the release.

The mail will be returned to the intended recipients.

Only one piece of mail had been opened, and it still contained a check and a card, according to the release.

One piece of mail was from Port Angeles. The remainder of the mail has been turned over to the Sequim Police Department and Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
