NEWS BRIEFS: Special Clallam Transportation Board meeting set for this afternoon … and other items

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam Public Transportation Benefit Area Board will review the performance of a public employee in a special closed meeting at 3 p.m. today.

The special public meeting will be in the conference room at Clallam Transit System, 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd.

No action is expected.

Author talk

PORT TOWNSEND — Author Maribel Crandell will speak about her book, “Flip Flop on the Appalachian Trail,” from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The presentation will be held in the Carnegie Reading Room at the Port Townsend Public Library, 1220 Lawrence St.

According to a press release, Crandell hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to New York and then from Maine southward.

Crandell works as a community outreach educator on Whidbey Island.

Singers set auditions for Thursday

SEQUIM — The Peninsula Singers will hold auditions for its Gilbert and Sullivan Extravaganza from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.

The auditions will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Singers should register at 6:30 p.m.

Singers auditioning for a lead role should select a Gilbert and Sullivan song and bring three copies of it with them.

Singers auditioning for the chorus may select any song they wish and bring three copies of the music as well.

An accompanist will be present to play for each person’s audition.

The extravaganza will be performed April 26 through April 28.

Rehearsals will begin Thursday, Jan. 17, and

continue until the show.

Student of the Month

Hannah Bates was named the November Middle School Student of the Month by the Sequim Sunrise Rotary.

Bates’ favorite subjects are math and history. She enjoys playing basketball and softball.

Bates plans to attend a college to study kinesiology so that she can pursue a career as a trainer with the Women’s National Basketball Association.
