NEWS BRIEFS: Sequim book discussion planned for June 11 . . . and other items

SEQUIM — Sometimes a Great Notion by Ken Kesey will be discussed at the Sequim Branch Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 11.

“A bitter strike is raging in a small lumber town along the Oregon coast. Bucking that strike out of sheer cussedness are the Stampers. Out of the Stamper family’s rivalries and betrayals Ken Kesey has crafted a novel with the mythic impact of Greek tragedy,” according to the book’s description.

The event is free and open to the public.

The program is supported by the Friends of Sequim Library.

Gas station is now open near PA

PORT ANGELES — The Lower Elwha Food and Fuel convenience store, 4773 S. Dry Creek Road, opened last Wednesday, with a grand opening celebration set for late this month.

The Lower Elwha Klallam tribe, with construction by PNE Corp. of Longview, built the convenience store and eight-fuel-pump facility on tribal trust land.

Fuels available include unleaded, diesel and ethanol-free. High-speed diesel will be coming soon.

The store offers a selection of grab-and-go food, beverages, beer and wine, and other convenience items.

Store hours are from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with expanded summer hours to come.

Women’s apparel, jewelry available at new PA store

PORT ANGELES — NW Fox, 127 E. First St., has officially opened after holding its ribbon-cutting ceremony May 13.

Formerly known as Coastal Embroidery, owner Karen Fox expanded the business and opened NW Fox.

The business offers women’s apparel, jewelry and accessories, custom embroidery and screenprinting.

It also will be increasing its selection of Port Angeles and Olympic Peninsula souvenirs.

NW Fox is open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
