NEWS BRIEFS: Port Angeles School District Board of Directors meeting … and other items

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School District Board of Directors will convene for a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The meeting will be held at the district’s Central Services Building at 216 E. Fourth St.

On the agenda is a mid-year budget review, an executive session and a regular meeting.

Estate planning workshop

PORT ANGELES — A free estate planning workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April18.

Registration is required for the event at Peninsula College’s Cornaby Center at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. Toregister, call 360-417-6247.

Those seeking information about financial and estate planning, charitable giving, as well as the impacts of2018 tax reform are encouraged to attend.

The workshop will begin with a focus on financial planning, plan components, and results with ChrisSimmons and Ray Chirayath of The Olympus Group at D.A. Davidson.

Estate planning principles and strategies from a legal and tax perspective will be presented by attorneyStephen C. Moriarty and Tony Cunha, CPA.

Clallam County Commissioner Mark Ozias will talk about the collective impact of nonprofit organizations inour area, and the role they play in our communities in a segment titled “Nonprofits: The Civic Heart andEconomic Engines of Clallam County.”

Ozias will speak to the increasing need of local governments to partner in new ways with the nonprofitsector in order to address complex challenges across a wide variety of service areas.

Getta Rogers Workman, Peninsula College Foundation executive director, will wrap up the event by sharingstrategies to ensure fulfillment of charitable legacy gifts.

A free lunch will be served.

The workshop is sponsored by the college foundation.

Forks class reunion

FORKS —All former Forks High School students from graduating classes 1930-1999 are invited to a Saturday, April 28, class reunion.

The cost is $20 per person at the door at the Forks Elks Lodge at 941 Merchant Road. Attire is casual for the reunion.

Attendees who are not graduates are required to have their names on the guest list. To add a guest, call 360-640-2132.

Doors to the event will open at 4 p.m., and snacks will be served until 5:30 p.m.

Dinner will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a short program to follow.

The event is a fundraiser for the Forks Elks Lodge.

Port Angeles Sailing Team places eighth in Seattle

SEATTLE — The Port Angeles High School Sailing Team competed with other Northwest DistrictInterscholastic Sailing Association teams during the Seattle Yacht Club Open.

The team placed eighth in A Fleet during the March 10 event.

Members of the team who competed were PAHS junior Makena Meredith and senior Anna DeGroote;Stevens Middle School eighth-grade student Elliot Dahlin; and Tiernan O’Connor, a Sequim Middle Schooleighth-grader.

The sailing team is supported and sponsored by the Port Angeles Yacht Club as part of its Junior SailingProgram.
