NEWS BRIEFS — Paving set to begin today in Sequim . . . and other items

SEQUIM — The city of Sequim has announced that Interwest Construction will be paving city streets today as part of an ongoing water infrastructure improvement project.

Paving work will be performed between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the following streets:

■ East Prairie Street between South Sequim and South Sunnyside avenues.

■ East Maple Street between South Sequim and South Sunnyside avenues.

■ South Sunnyside Avenue between East Prairie and East Maple streets.

■ East Bell Street between South Sequim and South Sunnyside avenues.

Paving work will be dependent on weather, and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes.

The project is part of an ongoing effort by the city to replace a number of old, outdated water lines.

Detox services are the focus of meetings today, Tuesday in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Health and Human Services will host informational meetings on the recently opened Specialty Services II Detoxification Program at 825 E. Fifth St., Port Angeles, today and Tuesday.

The meetings will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Emergency Operations Center in the basement of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.

The same information will be presented at both meetings: An overview of the program and referral procedures.

The program’s directors will present information about the program, which serves individuals who are withdrawing from addictive substances.

Detoxification programs provide professional care to individuals to ensure safety during substance withdrawal, including alcohol, as a step toward treatment for addiction.

Run, walk with Rain-Deer at Saturday event in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — The city Parks and Recreation Department will host a Rain-Deer Fun Run/Walk at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The 5K and 10K run/walk starts at City Pier and follows the Waterfront Trail on an out-and-back course.

Pre-registration participants receive a T-shirt and antlers.

Prizes are awarded for best costume.

The cost is $23 per person, $11 for those 18 and younger.
